When is the right time to sell? It’s the million dollar question. But believe it or not, the answer is actually quite simple. There is a buy and sell demand all year round, so anytime is a good time to sell, especially when you’re buying in the same market.
What we find is that October through till March tends to be the peak time for house sales, which is directly related to how many houses are on the market. At the same time, it’s almost impossible to predict what’s going to happen in the future, and that doesn't just count for the housing market.
When Covid hit, economists and banks all over the world predicted the housing market would crash and never be the same again. Within a month of New Zealand going to Alert Level One, it bounced back and the amount of people selling their homes was basically back to what it was before the pandemic began.
In saying that, finding the right time to sell can be very dependent on your situation. Maybe you’re a couple who are about to start a family and need to upgrade to a bigger space, or you could be at that stage where all the kids have moved out and there’s actually too much space for just the two of you. Whatever your circumstances, ultimately, we believe the right time to buy is actually yesterday.
